one suggestion though: i wouldn't spend too many words on defending ray franz, wouldn't mention him at all really, he's got nothing to do with 607 and it's easy to get side tracked.

very good. there's one thing i'd also mention and another thing i'd emphasize a little more:
1. russel was calculating the 1914 date from 606 BCE, not 607 BCE. so not only did they expect something completely different to happen, the whole calculation was wrong (well, the new one is too, as we all know).
2. i'd put a little more emphasis on the fact that the 1799 and 1874 dates were still promoted by JWs until some 20 years after 1914. rutherford's books still got those dates in them.

it occurred to me, that is, like, oh my gawd, soooo old testament!

Divorced Atheist ex-JW Dad
by braincleaned ini just wanted to chime in as a loving atheist father, divorced to a jw, and what plays as far as educating our children.. we have shared custody but the kids are mainly with their mom - 11 and 14 respectively.. the problem i face is keeping a balance for my children.
i have turned atheist during our marriage, so my ex didn't have the spiritual support she signed up for anymore.
i can understand it is not easy.

i think you're on the right track. i'm not quite in the same situation, my wife's inactive and while she still believes many things of the WT, she doesn't push the topic. my little son would grow up without indoctrination of any kind, if it wasn't for his grandparents, they never stop talking about jehovah, luckily all he got from that is that jehovah must be something on the ceiling and while he sometimes starts to pray before dinner, he thinks prayer is simply mentioning everyone's names and say thank you to mom, so that's alright so far.
as to the JW upbringing, i know several people who say it was alright or even for the better, but i can't say that for myself. it was horrible and while it may have made me stronger in some weird way, it left me with a completely destroyed personality, low self esteem, difficulties to socialize etc. but i guess everyone reacts differently.
all in all, kids from 100% JW households will leave the JWs by an 2:1 chance. kids in "split" households very much depend on how the non-JW handles the situation. if you go onto a crusade against JWs, their persecution complex will push the kids right into the religion. not paying too much attention to the JW stuff and instead focusing on things like critical thinking or simply normal activities like sports etc. will give the kids a good chance to not follow the cult.

he came to inspect all the new religions that popped out back then and chose the bible students to be the one and only truth. of course back then they thought he returned in 1874, but one can be a little late, right? so after this challenging decicion making he went back home, threw out his brother satan over some silly quarrel and now saves some funds for his third coming. jesus saves, you know.
